Which Processes Can Replace Hard Chrome Plating

In recent years, with the apparent increase in the awareness of the health and environmental threats of chrome plating, it has gradually shifted to alternative coating technology. The environmental and health rules have become more stringent over the past two decades, which has severely hit the domestic hard chrome plating industry.


Nickel-based alloy coatings used to replace hard chrome are mainly nickel-phosphorus alloys, nickel-tungsten alloys, nickel-tungsten-boron alloys, nickel-tungsten-phosphorus alloys, etc. These coatings are subjected to thermal aging treatment, and the highest Vickers hard plating can reach 950~1050.


The hard oxidation process is used to replace the traditional hard chrome plating. Compared with the hard chrome process, it has the advantages of low cost, firm film bonding, convenient plating solution and convenient treatment of cleaning waste liquid. However, the film layer obtained by this process has the disadvantage that the film thickness is large.
